Since 1997 John and Tami have been training others to become Registered Maine Guides so they too can live their dream, their passion.

Together they own and operate 

Maine's Outdoor Learning Center, an outdoor school that's been  preparing others to be leaders of the Maine woods and waters for over 22 years.

The Mattwamkeag River is home to the Woods-Wise "Hands-on" Maine Guide training program. For just about a week We will be together from dawn to dusk learning and sharing skills. We flow from desktop to field, covering all 3 licenses: Recreation, Fishing, and Hunting. You will gain great wisdom and knowledge to take one of Maine's toughest outdoor tests. You will be confident. You will be prepared.

Proficiency in Map Reading and using a Compass in a professional way is one of the huge factors in Becoming a Registered Maine Guide as well as a more well rounded outdoorsmen. Understanding a map in conjunction with a compass creates confidence while hiking, camping, canoeing, and in general.
